Columbus native Alex Emrich knows the importance of cooking with good ingredients, a lesson learned from his two grandfathers, one a local farmer, the other a local butcher. Their guidance in mind, Alex crafts gourmet double-patty burgers on his food truck, Street Thyme, using fresh, local ingredients. All patties are fashioned with juicy, hormone-, antibiotic-, and steroid-free Ohio beef from Carfagna’s Meat Market. Each burger, in turn, features a roster of carefully selected toppings. Take the Cajun Flame, which is capped with grilled Ohio Amish tomato, jalapeños, hot-pepper cheese, and habanero-Sriracha aioli. Even Street Thyme's buns are an upgrade from the traditional white-bread roll. They're served on the likes of challah and sourdough bread, all baked at Eleni Christina Bakery. But no burger is complete without fries and a shake, something that Emrich also has covered. He whips up seasoned fries—available in three inventive flavors—and sweet, thick milkshakes to pair with his handhelds. This masterful combination of fresh, local ingredients helped Street Thyme win Best Food Truck of 2014 at the annual Columbus Food Truck Festival.
