What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition?
Stretch Science is the leader in a rapidly growing segment of the health and fitness industry referred to as assisted stretching or stretch therapy. For years stretching was the one component of health and well being most over looked by active individuals. That is not the case anymore and Stretch Science is leading this “Evolution.” We set the standard in this paradigm shift away from classes and fitness methods that injure participants. Stretch Science sets itself apart from the competition by offering sessions with true Professionals in the field rather than personal trainers and yoga instructors who receive a weekend certification and present themselves as such. Each of our “Stretchologists” has more than 10 years working directly with clients from professional and Olympic athletes to the elderly and everyone in between. We are also the company that is Teaching certification courses to others in health and fitness that want to learn the techniques to offer in a more limited capacity to their own clients around the country.
Stretch Science offers active assisted stretching sessions. Active assisted stretching is designed to be a very safe and effective way to prevent injury, recover and keep your body in a good sense of balance. In a typical session your “Stretchologist” will take you through dozens of active stretches that will unlock muscle tightness, open up your joints/back and promote circulation while you relax comfortably on our stretching table.
What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
Over 12 years of experience working with professional athletes at a clinic in NYC with world renowned Sports Physiologist Jim Wharton. Here I realized the benefits of active assisted stretching over other forms of therapies and methods in allowing for a significant decrease in injury and improved movement that translated to better results in competition. Over that time I also worked with many everyday hard working people who also benefitted immensely from the work when other things they tried had limited effectiveness. From these experiences I decided to bring these techniques practiced with thousands of people over that amount of time to the masses. That’s why we now offer certifications and workshops in addition to the one on one sessions. Each of our clients leaves with the knowledge to self treat so they can maintain the newfound balance in their body that this work creates.
What do you love most about your job?
The best part of our job is to see previously active individuals or athletes be able to get back to the sports and activities they were doing 5, 10, 15 years ago without getting hurt. Every time I have a client that we worked with come back and say “Hey, I really have to thank you for helping me get back to doing the things I used to enjoy in life. I can now run, play golf and exercise all without hurting myself!” it really reconfirms why I do it. By the way all clients are taken through our individualized system for 4-12 weeks while being taught how to take care of themselves on their own. That way by the time they leave us having completed the program or put onto a maintenance routine they have all of the tools necessary to maintain their newfound ranges of motion and balance.
What is the best reaction you’ve ever gotten from a customer?
The best reaction I’ve ever gotten from a customer actually didn’t come from the client himself. It came from his wife who, after his passing at the age of 85 said to me, “You know I just want to thank you directly for helping my husband enjoy the remaining few years of his life. I really attribute a lot of those last memories with our friends and family to you keeping him up and mobile the past few years.” Even haven been so proud of athletes and others that I’ve worked with I never felt as good as I did that day for helping someone enjoy life. That’s what it’s all about.
