Choose one location from either the Windy City Fieldhouse or the UIC Physical Education Building. Beginning May 1, classes currently at the Fieldhouse will move outdoors to Montrose and Diversey harbors, and UIC's classes will move to locations in University Village, the West Loop, and downtown. First-time Stroller Strides moms will also receive a complimentary first class.
Getting in shape after giving birth can be as difficult as staging a dramatic reading of a Kenan & Kel episode with professional actors. Taking care of the baby takes a lot of time, leaving bodies weary and sapped of leftover energy. Stroller Strides understands these common struggles and has designed an exercise regimen with new mothers in mind. All you need to get started is you, your baby, and a stroller. The classes, taught by specially trained instructors, usually take place outdoors and consist of a warm-up, a buggy-bandying power walk, and interval stations where participants do a variety of body-toning exercises. Instructors provide everyone with exercise tubing and, in the event of a fussy baby episode, will show you exercises you can do with your baby. Indoor classes make use of sheltered venues but apply the same principles as the outdoor sessions.
In addition to providing a fun exercise regimen that takes babies into consideration, Stroller Strides is a venue for new mothers to interact and socialize. Stroller Strides recommends waiting until a newborn is at least six weeks old before beginning classes. New mothers should get a doctor's permission before beginning any exercise program.
