A Chat with Studio 118
What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition?
We offer international dance classes, [making us different than] the traditional dance studio. Our biggest enrollment is in Irish dance….We offer classes for dancers as young as 18 months and all the way up to…adults.
What’s one tip for first-time students that will make them feel like veterans?
There are no mistakes. All classes are taught at a reasonable pace so each individual can pick up the steps. Wear comfortable clothing, flexible footwear, and be prepared to sweat. Classes progress from week to week. Dancers are expected to practice at home to continue improving.
What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
[We have been a] family business for more than 30 years. With origins in Irish dance and music, the school has evolved, now offering classes in other dance forms. Our purpose is to promote dance education and physical fitness in the community. Dance enhances coordination and communication skills while building confidence.
What do you love most about your job?
A dance studio is a happy place where we go to forget about the outside world and just dance away our troubles. Teaching and encouraging children to improve and work through difficult tasks is extremely rewarding. Choreographing improves creativity, stimulates the brain, and reduces stress.
