$39 for an Introductory Standup-Paddleboarding Class ($79 Value)
In the 90-minute introductory class, one of the experienced instructors from SUPGirlz's all-female team will guide students through water- and wind-safety information and board-carrying techniques before paddling out in the water while kneeling on the board. Once afloat, the group learns to stand on the board, gains some paddling techniques, and has some fun gazing back at the Kew-Balmy Beach. Board and paddle rental are included, and photos taken by a staff member from shore will be emailed to participants after the class has concluded. Classes are open to men and women of all ages, though students must be able to swim and must weigh at least 100 pounds. See the full schedule.
Ancient Polynesian athletes had the right idea with stand up paddleboarding. As paddlers catch gentle waves and soak in the sun, the sport whips their bodies into shape as a side effect, leaving toned bellies, arms, legs, and back in its wake. At SUPGirlz, staff members—all of whom have roots in surfing and other boarding activities including wake-, skate-, and snowboarding—share their passion for the water-based sport with students of all abilities. Their classes range from beginner paddles to Surfer Sculpt, an intense workout that, much like a grizzled seadog's life, is divided between land and sea. Classes are every day, all day long during the summer. Join the 5-week series to learn to SUP and surf the Great Lakes, yes, you can surf here in Toronto! In the winter a fishing village in Ecuador sets the stage for their all-inclusive camps, which incorporate yoga, surfing, and stand up paddleboarding into nine days of outdoorsy fun.
