Choose Between Two Options
- C$20 for a 60-minute beginner standup-paddleboard lesson (a C$40 value)

Classes meet at Kew/Balmy Beach where accredited instructors hand out SUP boards, paddles, leashes, and personal flotation devices. Instructors then cover safety skills and key techniques, including how to balance, turn, and use different paddle strokes. To allow for plenty of personal attention, SUPsurf keeps classes to a maximum 6:1 student to instructor ratio. After the intro lesson, paddle boarders can sign up for social paddles and other classes such as SUP yoga.

If Matt and John Helfrich had decided to go parasailing instead, SUPsurf may have never existed. During a family vacation in Hawaii, the two hit Waikiki Beach, and it was there that they first walked on water atop stand-up paddleboards. They were hooked. They bought some boards and starting paddling around the shores of Lake Ontario. At the time, it was something of a novelty, and a real conversation starter with people intrigued by the sport. So, Matt and John took the next natural step and opened their own business.
At SUPsurf, they initiate newbies, helping them find the sweet spot—that place on paddleboards where your feet find balance, standing up for the first time and floating out on your first adventure. After learning basic skills, newly-minted paddle boarders can try out SUP yoga—which uses the natural struggle for balance to blast abs into shape—or explore the Toronto Islands.
