Q:

Who/Where/What tle # do i call to make a reservation for this lesson.. the Balmy Beach club itself OR a specific company?

June J.  asked on  May 14, 2013

A:

Hi June. Call me directly at the SUPsurf phone # shown in the offer - 416-686-5378 and I'll book your lesson time. While we paddle out of Kew/Balmy Beach area, we have nothing to do with the Balmy Beach CLUB. They are a separate entity altogether. Thanks for asking.

Q:

Hello there. Is it mandatory to must know how to swim for participating the paddleboard surf lessons? Will there be life jackets supplied? Thank you!

Edwina F.  asked on  May 16, 2013

A:

Hi Edwina. Yes, it's mandatory to know how to swim to participate in our 'Groupon' Group Lessons. Even though lifejackets and ankle leashes are provided, we find that non-swimmers sometimes have greater anxiety about falling in the water. They occasionally have a panic response when they do fall in. That's no fun for the non-swimmer, the instructor, or the other participants. But for $50 you can have a private lesson ($100 for you and a friend), and we'll ensure you receive all the care and attention needed to make your lesson safe and enjoyable. Once you've completed our Quick Start Introductory Lesson, you're welcome to participate in any of our other group sessions, like yoga or social paddles. We hope you understand.

Q:

Where do I see dates and times available to book?

Megan B.  asked on  May 16, 2013

A:

Hi Megan. Our initial Groupon offer runs until the end of May, then we start bookings and redemptions in June. So that's when you can see the schedule and start booking a specific time. I don't see a problem finding the time you want if you book in June for anytime this summer. Most of our lessons/classes run in July and August because the water can still be quite cold in June. Any time beginning June 1, send me an email with your name, voucher number, cell phone # and preferred time and I'll set it up and confirm it with you. Booking for 2 people on the 'double groupon'? Send me contact info for both parties. And don't forget to print, sign and email the waiver/release form. You can't go out without it. See you soon!

Q:

What is the maximum weight allowed? Thanks, M3

Marion M.  asked on  May 16, 2013

A:

Hi Marion. The maximum weight is determined by the board size (and sometimes shape). We have one or two boards that will work fine with a 250 lb paddler and a few boards that will work with 200 to 210 lbs. That said, the heavier the paddler, the 'tippier' the board is. That's why women who are lighter than their male counterparts seem to learn faster when their boards are the same size. So it can be a bit more challenging for a heavier paddler to learn the balance skill but once you've got it, it's like riding a bicycle - no problem.
