Q:

I have a laser resurfacing done 10-12 years age and it cause me pigmentation which my Doctor did not tell me during my consultation. Will this treatment cause hyperpigmantation? Thank's! Myrnah Ramos of Fullerton

Bernie R.  asked on  Sep 13, 2012

A:

Myrnah - Hyperpigmentation in darker skin is a possible side effect. The newer lasers have come a long way in being able to avoid this, but in order to be safe and make sure this procedure is for you, Dr. provides a 30 minute conultation after purchasing your Groupon to assess your skin and discuss whether the Resurfacing or some different treatment approach is appropriate. If it turns out that your skin color does not make you a candidate for a safe procedure, we will let you apply the value of the Groupon to the other services, treatments we provide.

Q:

How does Fractional CO2 Laser differ from PIxel or Lasers such as Erbium or Matrix? Will this procedure work for deep acne scars?

Karleen R.  asked on  Sep 13, 2012

A:

Karleen - one could write for hours on the differences. First, you must understand that the Fractional CO2 resurfacing we perform is done with the Lumenis UltraPulse Encore DeepFX and/or ActiveFX. This system is - unequicocally - the Lamborghini/Ferrari of fractional lasers. Not only is it the most powerful laser on the market, but it delivers the laser energy to the skin more quickly, making for a safer, more efficacious result. While the Matrix is also a fractional CO2 device, it is a substanstially less powerful piece of technology, that doesn't provide the doctor the additional setting parameters necessary to get the best result. Finally, it is important to understand the difference between CO2 and Erbium (Pixel being a fractional erbium). Unfortunately due to the substantial difference in wavelength between CO2 (~10,900nm) and Erbium (~2940nm), the Erbium lacks both the depth of penetration and coagulative properties exhibited by a CO2. Therefore, the Erbium resurfacing is much bloodier and much less effective at tightening, acne scar, and wrinkle reduction. Hope this helps Karleen!

Q:

I have some scars from past acnes and occasionally one or two active acnes and my skin is sensitive. Is this the right treatment under this situation? Is there any side effect (like skin will be more sensitive afterwards)? What does "being in public" mean? Does that mean being in public right after the treatment will not be good for recovery or it looks bad? By the way, is there any additional cost for the after treatment care? Thanks!

Jinlu W.  asked on  Sep 13, 2012

A:

Jinlu - there is no better procedure for removing acne scars than fractional CO2 resurfacing. While you are healing (at least 3-4 days), your skin will be very sensitive and need to be protected by a coat of a petroluem based product (like Vaseline) called aquaphor. You will not be outside or in public while healing because you will not be presentable and you won't be able to expose your skin to sunglight, as that can comprimise healing. As for the cost of after treatment care, you will be responsible for this. It will include: Aquaphor, cetaphil cleanser bar, Acyclovir prescription (to prevent cold sores possibly flaring up after treatment). All of this can be found at a drug store. We will supply you with post care instructions on the day of your consultation.

Q:

Hi. I have very oily skin and have enlarged pores. I would like to minimize their size permanently, can this help?

j g.  asked on  Sep 13, 2012

A:

JG - This fractional CO2 resurfacing procedure will absolutely decrease pore size. However, with oily skin, one must be vigilant about washing the face at least twice per day after healing from the treatment to prevent those pores from enlarging once more.

Q:

I have sone facial veins. When I get facials I am always told "a lazer can take care of those". Is this CO2 the machine to address my facial veins? And would it be part of this particular deal? Or is it a seperate service?

Marta M.  asked on  Sep 13, 2012

A:

Marta - your esthetician is absolutely correct! Fractional CO2 resurfacing is capable of treating fine surface blood vessels in the face. If they are larger vessels, they may require treatment with another one of our lasers designed specifically for this purpose (known as a Candela GentleYag). This would be subect to an additional charge. Hope this helps!

Q:

I was wondering if this helps aging skin I no longer have acne but I want to do something to tighten and help the wrinkles I am 54. The down time is 3 days because you are red or due to possible infection? Thanks you Cindy

Cynthia W.  asked on  Sep 13, 2012

A:

Cynthia - Relative to skin tightening and wrinkle reduction, there currently exists no better method of treatment than fractional CO2 resurfacing! Simply put, it is the "Gold Standard" within dermatology! You will have no less than 3 days of down time, as the skin is red, healing, and needs to be covered with a petroleum-based salve called Aquaphor. Incidence of infection is quite low and issuance of oral antibiotics is usually resereved for resurfacing treatments more agressive than the type associated with this Groupon promotion.

Q:

It was recommended to me to have one session after another on the same day, waiting between sessions in the office for it to cool down. I have deep wrinkles around my mouth. Would it be possible for me to buy 2 or 3 of your vouchers and do multiple sessions on the same day, as my cosmetic surgeon recommended? Or do you have an upgrade deal for this request? Thanks so much for your Q & A's

kathy m.  asked on  Sep 12, 2012

A:

Kathy - The groupons are limited to 1 per patient, but there is an option to uprade and therefore reach an equitable outcome. We will discuss the details during your consultation.

Sublime M.  from  Merchant  replied on  Sep 12, 2012

A:

Kathy, Im not sure what type of procedure your referencing to that one would want you to wait and do it a few times on the same day. It does not sound like fractional resurfacing, unless they are doing a fractional then a full ablative resurfacing. You dont need two of the same treatments back to back on the same day, I am able to change the settings to achieve results to meet your goals with a single treatment. We can further discuss this during your consultation. Thanks and I hope this helps., Dr. D.
