What You'll Get
Horseback riding replaced horsefront riding during the War of 1812, when American soldiers realized they couldn't be taken seriously while being carried in adult-sized baby slings. Giddy-up like a grownup with today's Groupon: for $35, you'll receive a one-hour private riding lesson and a tack lesson at Summer Wind Stables, located in Chesterland (a $72 value).
Founded by equine experts Conni and Clay Lawrence, Summer Wind Stables teaches prospective saddle-sitters proper riding technique and safe horsemanship. With show-quality riding horses, the stable strives to foster equine-appreciation through lessons, which cover the basics of grooming, riding, and caring for a horse. Inexperienced horse-hoppers will also receive a tack lesson to ensure they are able to properly saddle and bridle their horses before riding. While young riders learn to responsibly care for and work with their horses, adults can enjoy an open-air ride in the countryside without the difficulty of straddling a car. The stable will provide an ASTM/SEI-approved helmet for all riders, and requires students arrive with long pants and close-toed shoes.

About Summer Wind Stables
The fleet of 14 school horses at Summer Wind Stables allows riders of all skill levels to study and appreciate horsemanship, a subject that encompasses both riding and horse care. Each lesson program is structured so that riders can learn at their own pace as they cover horse-related topics such as grooming, tacking, bathing, and proper riding technique. The stable’s steadfast commitment to safety, which prohibits riding without an approved helmet, enables riders to develop their confidence and assertiveness while practicing in the styles of hunter/jumper, dressage, or eventing. Meanwhile, a staff of active horseback riders mans the shop at Summer Wind Stables, lending advice to those searching for gifts, tack, apparel, or riding accessories.
