Pedal into the sun and shine on the Pinellas Trail with today's Groupon, which gets you a day-long bike rental from Sun West Cyclery. Sun West is a family-owned-and-operated bike shop that rents comfort bikes, a limited number of recumbents and road bikes, and absolutely no bikes outfitted with road spikes and oil dischargers.
Glide along the Pinellas Trail—a 47-mile abandoned railroad bed that has been converted to a safe and scenic trail—free of battery, fancy, and motor. Traveling on a bike means that tourists and natives alike have the time and 360-degree visibility it takes to really see Tampa. While the wind blows through your hair, and your hair blows through your hat, you can enjoy Wall Spring Park, Honeymoon Island, downtown (Palm Harbor, Dunedin, Tarpon Springs), the Sponge Docks, Clearwater Beach, and all the other spots, sights, and zones along the trail.
The joys of riding a bicycle are many and beloved by many. Smells, which are dulled to undetectable levels in four-wheeled transit, are vibrant and piquant from the fresh-air perch of a bicycle seat. The scenery of the country or of the city—its alleyways, byways, and other quaint little ways—comes to life in a colorful panorama of shops, sidewalk folk, nature birds, and little dogs. Sun West's comfortable and well-tuned bikes effortlessly roll over obstacles such as flower planters, shopping carts, and flower planters stacked on top of shopping carts. The shopping carts of Tampa at twilight, from the seat of a bicycle—sublime.

Bicycles: Walking For Lazy People
Bicycle-riding is replacing walking as America’s non-motorized transport system of choice, infuriating America’s most secretive lobbying group: the American Footwear Consortium. To convince Americans to walk more (and thus, buy more shoes), they’ve released the following radio spot highlighting the undesirability of bike riding:
“Bicycles. They seem harmless…but are they? Mostly yes, they are harmless…if being LAZY is harmless.
“Bicycles. Like walking for lazy people. To hardworking Americans, riding a bicycle is a slap in the face. A slap that puts shoe-retailers OUT OF BUSINESS.
“The USA was founded by walkers, not bicycles. Be a better American by buying new shoes every week. Call your state representatives and urge them to vote “Yes” on the Welden-Keanes Bill, which would make bicycle-riding a crime punishable by forced exile. A baby’s life may be at stake.”
