Choose from Three Options

  • $39 for one 2-hour photography workshop (Composition 1 or 2) (a $100 value)
  • $69 for two 2-hour photography workshops (Composition 1 and 2) (a $200 value)
  • $75 for one private, 1-hour image-review session (a $150 value)

Both the Composition 1 and Composition 2 workshops are open to photographers of all levels, whether they own high-end cameras or camera-equipped smartphones. Budding photographers discover how to frame shots in viewfinders before clicking the shutters, exploring sites such as Central Park, Spanish Harlem, Chinatown, and The High Line, and getting instant feedback on the shots they take. Level-two students should have a good understanding of their cameras’ basic functions or have taken Composition 1; see the class schedule.

Alternatively, students can take their photography to the next level during private critiques of up to 50 images with documentary photographer and sought-after contest judge Judith Farber. The review session includes feedback on which photos work and the reasons why as well as an overview of your photographic style and how you see when you shoot photos.

Sundays In New York

Judith Farber owes her style of documentary photography, in part, to her first workshop in the 1970s with Ansel Adams and Yousuf Karsh. Instead of lugging around one of the massive 8”x10” view camera, she decided that she'd rather capture candid, behind-the-scenes images of the masters as they taught the class. Farber then began working as a photojournalist, seeing her photos credited in newspapers, magazines, and books all over the world. After traveling the globe for airlines and travel bureaus and cofounding the educational, member-based website, Farber went on to teach composition to Tibetan children in Dharamsala, Chinese school kids, and New Yorkers—via her most recent teaching endeavor, Sundays In New York.

Farber teaches her students to share her love of street photography, showing them how to find the light and moments of energy that elevate snapshots into art.

Customer Reviews

This was a delightful and very well-done afternoon of photo shooting and composition instruction. Judith shares her love for street photography and her expertise in an engaging, and very educational way. I'd love to do another one. Soon!

I enjoyed the Sundays in New York composition workshop 1. Judith gave us a lot of good advise on how to compose and frame our pictures. The focus is on street photography (vs. portrait or nature photo). She gives you a good starting point to build upon. Those needing help on how to use their cameras out of auto mode should take the technical class first.
