While movie-making neanderthals grumbled about opportunistic hobnobbers at their prehistoric film festivals, everybody found a common bond when highbrow film critics were fed to an allosaurus. Feed your primordial movie hunger with today’s Groupon to the Sunscreen Film Festival, held from Wednesday, April 13 to Sunday, April 17 in St. Petersburg. The films will be screened at Muvico Theatres on Second Avenue North. Choose between the following options:
- For $25, you get two one-day passes valid from April 14–17 (a $70 value).
- For $69, you get an all-access VIP pass for the entire festival (a $150 value).
The Sunscreen Film Festival celebrates the celluloid efforts of the sunshine state, bolstering awareness and support of the invaluable asset of local filmmaking. The festival starts its sixth year with a slew of hand-picked flicks representing the works of local and international auteurs, along with informative workshops for future sun-stroked Speilbergs and panel discussions for fledgling Eberts. With two one-day passes, film fanatics can bask in the sunless glow of projectors as they cram a smorgasbord of short films, documentaries, music videos, and feature-lengths into their eyeholes. Day passes also grant access to panels and workshops. The passes may be used by one moviegoer for two days of the fest or split between friends for one day of movie gorging.
The VIP pass not only grants one film buff full access to every film, workshop, and panel at the festival, but it also opens the door to a wealth of Sunscreen’s nightly parties. From the opening night soiree at the Dali Museum on April 13 to the Saturday-night award ceremony and party, VIP pass holders will feel like Sunscreen royalty without having to endure a precarious knighting ceremony performed by a sword-swinging Robert Redford. Check out the schedule for a list of events and times.
