Like a milkshake ordered at a speakeasy, the haunted house augments childhood thrills with mature material, and is unfit for small children. To make up for missed treks through the nerve-racking real estate, youngsters can lace up rental skates and join post-spooked patrons to zip around a skating rink engulfed in lighting effects, flickers from five projection screens and 20 high-definition TVs, and melodies from the digital sound system’s collection of 350,000 songs. Guests can also plot entertaining diversions to the fun center’s arcade games, craft cell-phone texts for broadcast onto the big screen for a group critique, or finally settle the question of whether skate wheels are filled with caramel.
