Really enjoy the vibe of Superstition Meadery. Warm and low key with music in the background, we easily carried on a conversation while enjoying a sampler of wonderful meades and cider.

About Superstition Meadery

Since co-owners Jeff and Jen Herbert founded Superstition Meadery in 2012, they've created over 150 different meads, or wines made from honey, ranging from the light and dry to the dessert sweet. They sell some of these artisanal liquid creations abroad, in far-flung locales like Singapore and Denmark, but their hearts are where their tasting room is: Prescott, Arizona. Read on to learn more about the couple and their home base in Prescott:

  • They encourage sampling as many meads as possible. That's the entire purpose of the tasting room, where they serve flights and one-fluid-ounce tasting portions alongside more substantial glasses and bottles.

  • They have a sense of humor. It shows in the meads' names, such as Alexander the Grapefruit—a grapefruit-flavored mead, obviously—and Dancing Goat, which gets its kick from coffee and vanilla beans.

  • They know mead and snacks go together like PB&J. Hence their tasting room's small plates, which range from artisanal cheeses and homemade tapenade to charcuterie plates stocked with cured meat, fresh bread, chutney, and garlic aioli.

  • They dabble in beekeeping. The team here cares about quality so much that they get mead's principal ingredient—honey—locally in Arizona.

  • They produce four out of the five top rated meads on Untappd. Not only are their meads world renowned, but the Blueberry Spaceship Box, a blueberry cider, has received various top accolades.
