$39 for 90-Minute Introductory Stand-Up Paddleboarding Class ($79 Value)
A seasoned instructor guides up to seven men and woman toward total mastery of the waves. During the first-time class, she teaches students how to carry their boards, which they can choose after test-driving several, along with the fundamentals of water and wind safety as they learn how to stand up while paddling along the shorelines. Throughout the class, instructors snap photos that are emailed to students after sessions conclude. Pupils must be able to swim and should wear nonrestrictive yoga clothes, wetsuits, or bikinis with bare feet. Sunglasses, hats, and cameras aren't allowed out on the water but can be safely stowed at the beachfront shop.
Ancient Polynesian athletes had the right idea with stand up paddleboarding. As paddlers catch gentle waves and soak in the sun, the sport whips their bodies into shape as a side effect, leaving toned bellies, arms, legs, and back in its wake. At SUPGirlz, staff members—all of whom have roots in surfing and other boarding activities including wake-, skate-, and snowboarding—share their passion for the water-based sport with students of all abilities. Their classes range from beginner paddles to SUP Bootcamp, an intense workout that, much like a grizzled seadog's life, is divided between land and sea. Surfers who have have SUP’d before and are thinking about buying a board can take the board review class. During this two hour class, students will learn about different SUP boards available. Several times a year, a scenic fishing village in Ecuador sets the stage for their all-inclusive camps, which incorporate yoga, surfing, and stand up paddleboarding into nine days of outdoorsy fun.
