When Buenos Aires native Debora Caprov was at college in California, she was terribly homesick for her favorite Argentinian foods. When, years later, she found herself living in New York City, she was still unable to find the dishes she craved—so she started making them herself. Today, she's the founder and head chef at Sur Empanada Factory & Bakery, a take-out spot where she handcrafts traditional pastries such as churros filled with cream and croissants with dulce de leche. Of course, empanadas are a large part of the menu, stuffed with savory fillings that range from beer-braised chicken to pancetta with plums. Whole cakes and pies are also available to go, as are cups of coffee and all the oxygen you can gobble.
