The Deal

  • $50 for two-hour sushi making class for two ($100 value)<p>

During the classes, students learn to make sushi rice and roll california and shrimp rolls. The sessions are held on Saturdays and Sundays at 11 a.m., but customers should check the website for dates and call ahead to schedule their visit. Though not included in this Groupon, sushi-making kits will also be available for purchase.

After the sushi lesson, students can enjoy a kimono display and more demonstrations on Japanese culture including calligraphy, flower arrangement, the Japanese language, and how to prepare Japanese green tea.

Sushi Academy in Tennessee

The trained chefs at Sushi Academy in Tennessee work to demystify the art of rolling, filling, and presenting sushi during two-hour classes. Using hands-on teaching techniques, they demonstrate how to cook Japanese rice to the proper consistency before bundling it inside a seaweed wrap with fresh fish, crisp veggies, and other natural ingredients. Students also learn to craft the more common inside-out rolls, in which rice covers the outside of seaweed wraps.

When lessons conclude, cylindrical slices don crowns of gari, wasabi, and soy sauce to create a presentable plate of sushi for classmates to chow down on. The academy also peddles a medley of sushi-making gear, such as rolling mats and rice paddles, so that students can continue to hone their craft at home or deal with laundry-day shirt shortages by swaddling their torsos in nori.

Customer Reviews

Excellent session of learning, and fun. I went with my 16 year old daughter and we both enjoyed it a lot!!!! The teacher was communicative, interesting, and a very detailed, instructor...I would definitely recommend this others. Also she was very organized, which for the large group that attended made the time very smooth.
