What You'll Get

Jump to: Reviews | Unhealthy Sushi to Roll With

Widely agreed upon as a good food to eat when you're hungry, a sushi dinner is more than an opportunity to practice your chopstick skills. With today’s Groupon, $20 gets you $50 worth of sushi and drinks at Sushi on the Rocks. Located at 235 S. Meridian St.—just steps from bars like Ice Lounge and Claddagh Irish Pub—Sushi on the Rocks features fresh Japanese cuisine and sushi, a full drink menu, and live jazz and blues.

Loosen up with some sake, a martini, or, for those compulsive McGriddlers who insist on combining things, one of the sake martinis featured on the extensive drink menu. Use your Groupon to start off with a classic and intelligence-enhancing miso soup ($3) or try one of the appetizers ($5–$14), such as spicy tuna tataki or red snapper carpaccio. The sushi selection consists of 60 different nigiri and maki choices, as well as a number of special rolls diced by a knife so sharp it actually cuts through time to bring you rolls from eight minutes in the future. These specials include the fire dragon roll and the oshizushi roll (three different kinds of fish topped with masago and spicy mayo). Come between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Wednesday through Saturday for live blues and jazz, sit back, and marvel at all of the Crayola-rivaling colorful sushi you ordered.

Like a school of enthusiastic fish, Sushi on the Rocks' enthusiastic servers enthusiastically swim through the dining room to greet, seat, and serve you. Friendly and knowledgeable, the staff can help you choose the perfect meal from the diverse menu.

Along with the many positive reviews on the SOTR guestbook, Metromix rates the restaurant 4.5 stars, and Yelpers give it an average of 3.5 stars:

  • I recommend Sushi on the Rocks to EVERYONE! – Jared J., Yelp
  • I would recommend this if you're looking for a quick sushi lunch for a great price. – Jessica H., Yelp
  • The sushi portions are very generous. The atmosphere is real nice and quiet. – MJ W., Yelp

Unhealthy Sushi to Roll With

Sushi is a healthy alternative to the normal restaurant fare such as burgers and pizza. However, depending on what stuffs your sushi, you can turn a healthy meal into an unhealthy meal. Here are some least-healthy sushi rolls:

  • Reese’s Peanut Butter Roll
  • Thumbtacks and Blasting Caps Roll
  • Inappropriate Dosage of Anesthesia Roll
  • Meat? Roll
  • The Corey Haim Roll

About Sushi on the Rocks

Sushi on the Rocks pleases the palates, eyes, and ears of patrons with fresh Japanese fare, refreshing libations, and live jazz tunes. Owner John J. Lee crafts nearly 80 nigiri and maki options that range from sweet fresh fruit sushi to elaborate specialty rolls, such as the spicy tuna, tempura shrimp, and asparagus bundled into the Playboy roll. Entrees include grilled chicken drenched in teriyaki sauce, teriyaki steak or chicken options, and new specialty rolls such as the Mexican roll with shrimp tempura, and mixed crab, which is topped with spicy tuna, avocado, and mango. Thirst-quenching hot sake can warm chilled throats and the hearts of fish-loving misers, while more than 10 varieties of wines spare diners the arduous task of juicing their own raisins. Melodies swim through the elegant dining room Thursday and Saturday evenings, tickling eardrums with the sounds of jazz.
