The Sushi Smackdown, a pilot production for the forthcoming _Sushi and the City_ television series, showcases four top sushi restaurants competing for the coveted title of Best Sushi. Each contender vies for diners' votes and love letters, which are tabulated at the table at the end of the event. After selecting their preferred establishment, duos sample 18 of the chef’s finest orchestrations, including appetizers, sashimi, rolls, desserts, and one specially prepared dish. While eating, diners chat with up to six tablemates about the intricacies of each dish and whether or not fire is an adequate seasoning for food. Competitors include Samurai Sushi, which employs unexpected ingredient combinations—such as snow crab, avocado, grilled scallops, and creamy peanut butter in the C-Webber roll—and Akebono, which livens a list of specialty rolls with other sea-inspired cuisine, including deep-fried squid legs and oysters on the half shell. Nikishi Sushi challenges both sight and taste buds with imaginative arrangements and flavors, and competitor Crazy Sushi seeks to overcome with tactical roll techniques and oven-wielding saboteurs. After sushi cravings have been satisfied, diners return to the eateries at a later date to enjoy $50 worth of [sushi bucks](http://www.sushismackdown.com/sushi-bucks.html) in the form of one $5 gift certificate for each person to each of five participating restaurants, including those listed above, plus Sushi Mon in Roseville.
