The Sushi Smackdown, a pilot production for the forthcoming Sushi and the City television series, showcases top sushi restaurants competing to craft the finest eats. Each contender vies for diners' votes, which are tabulated at the table upon the feast's finish and provide the TV show's central drama. After selecting their preferred establishment, duos can sample 18 of the eatery's best eats, including appetizers, sashimi, rolls, and desserts and one specially prepared dish. While eating, diners chat with two–six tablemates about the feasibility of grilling a piece of raw fish over a glow-in-the-dark watch.
Samurai Sushi pleasantly surprises dining duets with unusual ingredient combinations, including the C-Webber roll, which merges snow crab, avocado, grilled scallops, and creamy peanut butter. Akebono livens up a list of specialty rolls with other sea-inspired cuisine, including deep-fried squid legs and oysters on the half shell.
Even after their sushi cravings have been satisfied, diners can return to the eateries at a later date to enjoy $50 worth of sushi bucks in the form of one $5 gift certificate for each person to each of four participating restaurants: Samurai Sushi and Akebono, as well as Miso and Sushi Mon.
