Weddings are full of ancient traditions and customs, such as throwing rice at the happy couple to symbolize a shower of blessings and the acceptance of a Jeopardy! Daily Double challenge. Celebrate any occasion with a rice shower with today’s Groupon to Sushiyaki in Buffalo Grove. Choose between the following options:

  • For $20, you get $40 worth of sushi and Japanese cuisine, and four pieces of jalapeño-pepper tuna (a $45.95 value).
  • For $45, you get $100 worth of sushi and Japanese cuisine for parties of four or more, and four pieces of jalapeño-pepper tuna (a $105.95 value).<p>

Sushiyaki’s chefs deftly roll fresh sushi as diners sit under hanging lanterns and sip from self-supplied beverages. Ignite heated debates over jalapeño-pepper tuna before casting lures into a menu of classic and inventive items, such as the lobster roll, which folds together fresh lobster, crab, and spicy mayo dressed in a tangy lemon sauce ($12.95). Diners can place bets on which heavyweight roll wins when the tri-powers of salmon, crab, and ebi tempura in the Sumo roll ($11.95) throw down against the building-crushing Godzilla roll, which houses spicy tuna, cream cheese, and avocado in eel sauce ($11.95). Pescaphobes can order beef teriyaki ($17) or chicken katsu ($13), and the spicy ramen ($5) enlivens palates with noodles. Accessorize any meal with a Kirin beer ($3.95) or a favorite BYOB option to ensure healthful libation levels throughout the meal ($1/person corkage fee).

The eatery’s private rooms sport low tables and comfortable pillows, which give high-profile eaters the seclusion they need to try out their new toe-held chopstick techniques.

At Sushiyaki, chefs roll up creative cuts of sushi, glaze meats with teriyaki, and whip up noodle entrees complemented by Japanese beers, wines, and teas. Red walls, eclectic decorations, and tunes from guest DJs fill the traditional dining area, and Japanese-style private rooms feature low tables and floor cushions. Bento boxes and sushi buffets let visitors plan their own taste-bud excursions, during which the smooth, black sushi bar becomes an airport check-in desk inexplicably staffed by fish-slicing chefs.

Customer Reviews

Absolutely fresh & delicious Sushi rolls. All rolls are creative, large, fresh, delicious & beautifully presented. I enjoyed the Sushiyaki, Dragon and Sunshine. Delicious!!!! My waitress was helpful, friendly & attentive, but not overly present. I also enjoyed miso soup, shrimp & vegetables tempura. All was served at good pace and perfect temperature. I highly recommend this restaurant. ~Kath
