Ancient singers had no microphones, which meant audiences were quieter, and bringing a pet howler monkey to a performance was twice as irritating. Hoot and holler all you want with today's Groupon to Swamp Pop Fest at Land-O-Pines Family Campground, Inc. in Covington. The festival is from noon to 8:45 p.m. on Saturday, September 24. Children ages 2 and younger are admitted for free. Choose between the following options:
- For $12, you get admission for two people (up to a $25 value).
- For $25, you get admission for four people (up to a $50 value).
The second annual Swamp Pop Festival fills the picturesque grounds of Land-O-Pines with rollicking tunes from four musical ensembles. The all-ages merry-making commences at noon, with a set from The Rockin' Oldies to properly warm up tapping toes and shimmying hips. At 2 p.m., a steady groove tickles eardrums courtesy of Vince Anthony & The Blue Notes, followed by tunes from The Southern Boys, who plan to draw more grins than a kitten comedian. Closing out the evening, The Treater Band's washboard and accordion add audible oomph to their traditional swamp pop tunes. Craft, cuisine, and specialty booths dot the campgrounds and prize and raffle tickets fly into purchaser's pockets throughout the day, with giveaways occurring between bands and a 50–50 raffle concluding the festivities.
Celebrating its 25th anniversary, Land-O-Pines also offers water slides, a swimming pool, fishing ponds, and other activities for an additional fee. Visitors, outdoor enthusiasts, and visiting Loch Ness monsters that wish to tent-dwell for the weekend can contact Land-O-Pines to make arrangements for an additional fee.
