Cookies complement a glass of milk the way a fine cheese complements a glass of wine or a Hot Pocket complements a glass of bitter tears. Decorate delectable dairy-sponges with today's Groupon: for $49, you get a two-hour decorating for the holidays class with six cupcakes and six cookies, plus a light lunch, at Sweets Unlimited in Glendale (a $100 value). Classes run on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the next available Easter-themed decorating session on March 26. Check Sweets Unlimited's website for additional upcoming classes.
Sweets Unlimited has been creating specialty cakes and desserts for more than 30 years, handcrafting ephemeral masterpieces for all occasions. A hands-on decorating seminar prepares bakers for year-round holiday dessert tray filling, passing on the age-old confectionary architecture techniques of layering, icing, and fortifying pastries with phyllo buttresses.
With all supplies included, confectioners can focus their energies on spookifying a Halloween disk or precisely tracing the anatomically correct wattle of a sugary Thanksgiving pilgrim. A light lunch keeps nimble fingers fueled with victuals taken from the lunch di jour menu, and it may include a fresh mini quiche paired with a light garden salad topped off with optional cold chicken strips. At the end of the class, fiery pastry kilns deliver a scrumptious severance package of six carefully decorated cupcakes alongside six homemade cookies accoutered in buttercream frosting.

In her 30 years of cake-crafting experience, she's done everything from crafting cute and creepy Halloween cupcakes to piping elaborate, lace-like designs onto elegant four-tier wedding cakes. Her unique cake flavors give taste buds their own reason to celebrate with options including champagne raspberry, cherry cheesecake, and chocolate caramel toffee crunch, and an array of assorted miniature pastries including pecan bars and coconut tarts provide a challenging obstacle for dieting Lilliputians. Other specialties include housemade key-lime, blackberry, and apple-cheese-caramel pies, as well as Eva's famous mudslide cake⎯a mountain of mini éclairs featuring housemade chocolate fudge drizzling down every side.
