What You'll Get
Swimming, like tying shoes and breathing, is a skill best mastered when young. Help little ones get a leg-up with today's Groupon: for $25, you get four parent-tot group swim lessons at SwimKids in Holladay ($74 value).
During SwimKids classes, grown-ups can introduce their tykes to the joys of recreational splashing with focused assistance from an experienced instructor. Fully formed arms cradle little ones ages 5–22 months during 25-minute parent-tot sessions, following the swim master's lead as they guide their buoyant babes through warm waves at a relaxed pace. Aside from leading mom and dad, teachers also give individualized attention to each small swimmer, leading each child through exercises in floatation, submersion, and synchronized thumb sucking. Water-bound cubs develop improved coordination as a result of the bilateral movements used during schooling, and giggle with delight from the undivided attention they receive from doting adults. Swim groups are limited to eight parent-pup pairs apiece, in accordance with the local fish-school board, and while many class times are already offered, additional times may be added to accommodate groups of at least three students.

SwimKids jump-starts tykes' swimming skills and allows them time to socialize with peers near their own age. Lessons are conducted in an indoor pool heated to a balmy 89 degrees. The program traces its roots back to 1983, when Liz Walker sought out a class that could teach her own 18-month old daughter to swim. Using her college training in Child Development and Behavioral Psychology, Liz began developing a program that helps young children learn to swim and love the water. Over the past 35 years, Liz has taught 1,000’s of tots life-saving skills. Today, the enthusiastic instructors at SwimKids continue to get results, helping students as young as 3 months old learn to enjoy the water in a safe way.
