Paintball is like a production of Hamlet: it's exciting, demanding, and by the end everyone has pretend-died. Experience Shakespeare in Technicolor with today's Groupon: $23 buys you a Commando package, including admission to the park, a gun, tank, mask, all-day air, and 500 paintballs at Synergy Paintball Challenge in Olmsted Falls. Synergy is open Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Paintball provides a competitive approach to studying the forces of velocity, wind resistance, and the physics of splatter. Armed with 500 washable paintballs and enough air to propel a full-day's play, players can choose from five fields in which to slather the opposing commando forces with air-propelled tsunamis of pigmented elimination. Whether speedballing in the meat grinder, woodsballing around the wooden gates and giant wire spools of Fort Synergy, or connecting with their inner ocelot in the Jungle, paintballers of every skill level will face challenges to overcome and pretty bullets to dodge. If players need more paintballs, they must purchase them from Synergy (500 for $16.99; 1,000 for $29.99).
Synergy provides a number of games to choose from, including capture the flag, elimination, and attack and defend. With an average game time of 20 minutes, eliminated players will be able to jump back into ambush with enemy troops before they can recite the Rime of the Ancient Mariner. With life-paint coursing through your veins, today's Groupon helps you decorate tree trunks, colorize the occasional flying squirrel, and transform the mildest-mannered of monks and gentlest of preschool teachers into frenzied, death-dealing banshees.
Outside paintballs are not allowed in Synergy. Must be at least 10 years old and sign a waiver. Reservations are required for groups of eight or more.
- Great place to play! Good people and good times! – Jen D., CityVoter
- I highly recommend this field to both experienced players and beginners. – loriclark711, PBReview
- This field is awesome and has a variety of fields. There's the fort/castle for woodsball, the Jungle for Speedball, and the new field, Meat Grinder. The refs are really helpful and friendly and are always looking out for safety, but aren't too strict. – Matt98C, PBReview
Synergy Woods aims to be a way of giving back to the community by offering a safe place to have fun and expend pent-up energy. On a given day, visitors can enjoy a thrilling ride on a ropes course, which is complete with a 600-foot zipline, 50-foot quick jump, and over 15 unique elements—all utilizing safe equipment and staff with extensive training. Lively groups can also be found swarming the grounds amid the whispery noise of paintballs cruising through the fresh air. It's here where teams engage in fun competition, regardless of age, size, or skill level. When the park isn't busy entertaining armies of thrill-seekers, they also play host to United States military reserves tactical training, an exercise that fills the park with humvees and transport vehicles before they begin mock Medevac evacuations. To further build on its reputation, Synergy Woods hosts organizations such as the United Way, American Cancer Society, and St. Judes Children's Research while longtime supporting Local AR.
