What You'll Get

Hot potato, the earliest dish designed to be passed, is nearly extinct due to the constant ravages of grade-school appetites. Today's Groupon revives shifting sustenance with $30 worth of tapas, Latin and South American cuisine, and exotic drinks for $15 at Talara.

Talara pulsates with vibrant Art Deco hues and patrons passing tapas, seviche, paella, and an array of Latin and South American specialties. Seven different seviche styles, each with a different mix of fresh seafood, are available from the seviche bar; nosh a 2 oz. serving of traditional seviche ($8) or choose two ($15) or three ($21) different preparations, such as the Peruvian-style tiradito or the curried tropical fruit. Tapas options include Portuguese-style mussels ($9), mini tostadas ($8), and empanadas stuffed with pulled pork and queso blanco ($9). Mid-sized plates, such as coconut-shrimp tempura ($14) and chili-rubbed salmon ($16), fill any appetite bucket to the brim. View the complete menu here.

Talara's bright atmosphere and full bar of lively libations is on par with its energetic eats. The greens of a key-lime mojito or a mint-bubblegum vodka mojito absorb the dining room's bright neon lights and complement the Cuban art on the walls. A daily glass of sangria or the traditional Brazilian caipirinha (made with cachaça, sugar, and lime) rounds out the exotic drink menu and makes a superb centerpiece for Talara's high-top tables. Dining at this global grub hub is a truly multisensory experience, like humming the theme song from Marcus Welby, M.D. while rolling in a pool of pizza dough. Call ahead to schedule a reservation.

  • If your inner Marc Anthony is yearning for a fiesta, your mojito is waiting. – Mary K. Zajac, Baltimore City Paper
  • Talara is a feast for the senses. Neon lights, bold Cuban art, salsa rhythms, and vibrant hues embrace visitors as soon as they enter this new Harbor East restaurant, where citrus-soaked ceviche and Latino tapas are the food draw—you'll quickly be immersed in a kind of South Beach hipness. – Suzanne Loudermilk, Baltimore Magazine
  • My gf and I are both big fans of ceviche, and this place serves it well. We were particularly impressed by the tiradito, which is zesty, flavorful and like nothing we have ever had before. – Ryan M., Yelp
  • They offer seven different ceviche styles but you get to pick which seafood critter goes with it! A great idea in my book. Of course we all shared everything we ordered and the ceviches were a big hit with me. My favorites were the Tiradito, the Ginger Tataki, the Fire and Ice. – Randy S., Yelp
