What You'll Get
Cooking at home involves the risk of small burns, spilled liquids, and the advances of an oven in heat. Avoid stovetop suitors with today's Groupon: for $19, you get $40 worth of locally sourced upscale comfort fare at Tap Root. Today's deal is not valid for alcohol.
Tap Root spouts the cultures and flavors of Alaska with a steady stream of goodies from local farmers, artists, and musicians. The menu teems with organic, free-range proteins, such as a Tap Root burger ensconced in a nest of onion frites ($11). Instead of taking the mac 'n' cheese on a romantic ocean cruise, simulate a deep-sea getaway by layering it with crab meat or wild salmon ($10). Steak tacos shimmy toward tables with a homemade salsa of the day ($9), and a crispy batter grand-slams halibut and chips ($12) into cheering crowds of teeth. The crème brûlée, adorned with citrus zest and antioxidizing blueberries ($6), makes an ideal dessert or post-dinner facemask.
In addition to filling breadbaskets until 2 a.m., Tap Root treats eardrums to live music seven nights a week. Visitors can float through clouds of jazz jams on Mondays or showcase their best birdcalls at Tuesday's open mic, which Anchorage Press readers deemed the Best Open Mic in 2010. A full-service bar pours 22 handcrafted Alaskan beers and an array of cocktails (not included in today's deal), and artists from across the region garnish the walls with paintings and photography.

About Tap Root Public House
After earning accolades for their dinner menu, the minds behind Tap Root Public House realized that there's more to life the just the last meal of the day. Now home to breakfast and lunch menus, the restaurant quells rumbling stomachs with dishes constructed from organic, free-range proteins and fresh Alaskan produce. A full juice bar and bloody mary bar join 22 local, handcrafted brews, a number of locally produced meads, and 40 different bourbons to form a formidable drink lineup. The restaurant lures in diners at all hours of the day; happy hour specials set the stage for post-work unwinding, and a late-night menu refuels wayfaring party-goers until 2.a.m. Local tunes from live bands fill the interior seven days a week, and Tap Root showcases local art on the first Friday of every month, which is the only day artists are allowed to go outside.
