Before wine and beer festivals, people had to usurp other holidays to celebrate their favorite drinks, which lead to the creation of Labeer Day, Hallowine, and Drunksgiving. Leave the calendar as it is with today’s Groupon: for $10, you get one admission to Taste of Stillwater (a $20 value) on Saturday, July 9, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Saint Croix Vineyards in Stillwater.
Taste of Stillwater celebrates local potable crafters with wine, beer, and food tastings set to the tunes of live musical acts throughout the day. With a wristband, customers will receive one tasting flight of Saint Croix Vineyards and Northern Vineyards wines, one Lift Bridge Beer Company tasting flight, and various food tastings. Try a Saint Croix Vineyards pinot grigio, a crisp libation accented with green apple and kiwi, or sip from Northern Vineyards’ full-bodied red St. Croix 2007, which is evocative of a merlot. Lift Bridge Beer Company brews a selection of local beers, including the Minnesota Tan, a Belgian triple ale infused with lingonberries for a pink tint, tart finish, and pie-ingredient potential. Food-sellers from around the area turn out for the festival, proffering bite-size portions of their cuisine and local bands sate nonnutritional desires with songs for the soul to thoughtfully chew.
After mouths grow tired and brains grow hungry for knowledge, customers may set off for walking tours of Saint Croix's winery and Lift Bridge's brewery to examine the processes and equipment involved in the production of adult beverages, including grapes, hops, and the mashed pulp of tax-return documents. When all is said and sampled, guests will depart the festival with a complimentary tasting glass in tow.
No pets or outside food or drink will be permitted at the event.
Taste of Stillwater
Taste of Stillwater's annual festival, established in 2011, directs the spotlight toward the palate-popular offerings of local wineries, breweries, restaurants, and food trucks. Throughout the daylong celebration, empty tummies shuffle from station to station filling up on samples of refreshing beverages and foods, fueling bodies to explore the festival grounds' shopping opportunities and to tour Saint Croix Vineyards. Families stake their claim on the lawn area with blankets, foldable chairs, and giant bronze statues of their great-grandfathers before they feast their ears on live music. Taste of Stillwater dedicates a portion of its proceeds to charities including Valley Outreach, a community-based nonprofit organization that supports low-income people with donations of food, clothing, and other necessities.
