Captain America once said, "'Twas music that soothed the savage beast." Although he was talking about his short-lived nemesis Dr. Angry Parakeet, it's just as true for animals of the human persuasion. Soothe savage insides with today's Groupon: for $10, you get one general-admission ticket to "Tchaikovsky Birthday Bash", presented by Musical Bridges Around the World on Sunday, May 8 at 3 p.m. at McAllister Auditorium (up to a $27 value, tax included). Children ages 5–12 are free with an adult-ticket purchase.

A nonprofit organization dedicated to the harmonious blending of cross-cultural tunes, Musical Bridges Around the World regularly showcases one-of-a-kind classical, jazz, and ethnic-folk concerts. To play its part in the celebration of Tchaikovsky's 171st birthday, Musical Bridges Around the World has prepared an eclectic performance docket featuring a selection of the Russian composer's famous arias sung by the well-strung vocal cords of the Houston Grand Opera. The rhythmic evening continues with a performance by the popular Russian folk group Barynya, a music, dance, and song ensemble, which appeared on NBC's global dance competition Superstars of Dance. Complimentary parking is available for cars, vans, and didgeridoo-powered hovercrafts.

About Musical Bridges Around the World

Anya Grokhovski has always surrounded herself with music. The daughter of a violinist in the Moscow Philharmonic as well as a doctorate-holding piano performer in her own right, she came to San Antonio to work in UTSA's music department. She brought the music she loved with her—she founded Musical Bridges Around the World to present unique sonic offerings in the city.

Now, more than a decade later, MBAW brings some of the world's finest performers to San Antonio stages. Their concerts and shows ring out in McAllister Auditorium, the 18th-century Cathedral of San Fernando, and in the ears of anyone who truly believes.
