Peruvian culture maven Dayan Aldana joins several local musicians in celebrating the life and career of María Isabel Granda Larco, otherwise known as the legendary Peruvian singer-composer Chabuca Granda. Famed in her home country for popularizing the waltz known as the Vals Criollo, Granda also became known for her signature song, "La flor de la canela" (The Cinnamon Flower), which became the unofficial anthem of Lima, and has been covered by artists like Yma Sumac, Julio Iglesias and Placido Domingo. Later in her career, she made a daring and influential dive into Afro-Peruvian rhythms. This tribute from Teatro de la Luna comes to the stage at the Rosslyn Spectrum Theatre.
This performance is recommended for those ages 13 and older.
