History tends to repeat itself, which means there’s a good chance you’ll get run over by another war elephant. Admire what history has taught us thus far with today’s Groupon to the Texas Civil War Museum in west Fort Worth. Boasting one of the largest Civil War collections in the country, the Texas Civil War Museum gives history buffs and casual chronologists alike a glimpse into the lives of Texas generals, soldiers, and citizens during the War Between the States as it focuses on the Lone Star State's role in the conflict. Browse more than 15,000 square feet of exhibits, including General U.S. Grant’s presentation sword, a Confederate cannon, and a host of Victorian-era dresses. You'll also get to examine an array of fascinating artifacts, medical devices, musical instruments, and an entire room dedicated to Texas flags.

Texas Civil War Museum

Shingled peaks and a lofty white balcony greet visitors as they stroll up to the Texas Civil War Museum, where more than 15,000 square feet of exhibits and collections work together to educate present generations on The War Between the States. The museum's themed sections weave a visual trek through time with artifacts preserved from both sides of the conflict, including infantry, cavalry, and artillery remnants. Medical relics and musical instruments supply additional glimpses into the war zone, and a collection of more than 300 Victorian dresses, which rotate on exhibit, showcases the style of women and celebrity cannons from that era. In addition to escorting guests through history, the museum also plays host to frequent events, such as monument ceremonies and live musical acts.

My 9-year-old son says "if you're homeschooled and studying about the Civil War, it's a great place to go!" We enjoyed it a lot. Men in period dress were very knowledgeable. We got to watch them shoot a gun also.
