Q:

does this include the fairgrounds admission

D J.  asked on  Jul 22, 2013

A:

Hi DJ, Texas Discovery Gardens is a separate museum, and admission to our venue does not include admission to any other venues at Fair Park. However, if you purchase Summer Adventures in Fair Park tickets, those tickets include free admission to Texas Discovery Gardens (as well as the Children's Aquarium) for the day of your visit. If you were asking about the State Fair of Texas, this does not include admission or parking during the Fair. In fact, we've got the deal on hold during the Fair, because we always reduce our admission by half during the fair. If you visit Texas Discovery Gardens between September 27-October 20, you will have to pay additional parking and State Fair admission fees. I hope that helps! If you still have a question, let me know. Thanks!

Q:

My husband is disabled, but not in a wheelchair. He has COPD. (lung disease from smoking). He is not on oxygen. He can walk but must rest occasionally. Are there any benches to sit on? Is this partially outside or in the sun? And are there several restrooms in different locations or in just one area? Thanks

Linda K.  asked on  Jul 23, 2013

A:

Hi Linda, Our butterfly house is two stories (mostly shaded). You enter on the second level (we have an elevator) and walk down a ramp toward the bottom. There are stone benches throughout the butterfly house. It is warm and humid -- about 85 degrees in there. To enter and exit, you go through a double door system with an air curtain. In the air conditioned lobby, we also have benches. We have restrooms down the hall in the lobby, and two out in the back of the gardens (camp/park style). Our gardens have benches along our Grand Allee area, but we are on 7.5 acres. **If you think it would make the trip easier for your husband, let us know at the front desk that he can't enter the second level. They can let you in through our Insect Lab entrance on the ground floor of the butterfly house. Then, he won't have to walk down the ramp. We also have a wheelchair on hand (at the front desk) if it would make his garden visit more enjoyable. Finally: getting here -- there is a bit of a walk from the parking lot to our front door. You can actually drive up to our door and drop off guests, and then park, but it might require a staff member coming out and letting a gate open. If you know when you'll be out here, I can get someone to help you out. Feel free to contact me directly if you have questions -- sgardner@texasdiscoverygardens.org or 214-428-7476 x230. Thanks!

Q:

Is it open on Saturdays and Sundays? I understand that $8 buys two tickets, is that correct? How many may I buy? At what age do you have to have a ticket? If I brought a 1 year old and a 7 year old and a 12 year old, would all of them need tickets? Thank you!

cindy M.  asked on  Jul 22, 2013

A:

Hi Cindy, We are open daily from 10 am to 5 pm. You may buy as many tickets as you like. Your 1 year old will get in for free. You and your 12 year old should take advantage of this deal, as you're both at the $8 ticket price. Your 7 year old can get a ticket for $4 (at the door--or, if you have another adult coming, you could still get a pair of tickets to cover the adult and 7 yr old and save $4 on the adult ticket). (Admission is: $8/adults, $6/ages 60+, $4/ages 3-11, and free for 2 and under). Thanks!
