Trainers combine weight training and cardiovascular training for humans with dog training in one-hour outdoor workout sessions that provides a workout for both the dog and their owner. During each class, a certified fitness trainer leads people in their exercises, making sure they’re performing each motion correctly. Meanwhile, a pair of dog instructors roams the camp, ensuring that canines obey their owners’ commands. Sometimes, the man and beast duo sprint across open fields, lifting knees high. At other times, dogs sit perfectly still while their owners perform pushups or ab exercises or lift weights. At the end of each session, trainers encourage participants to thank their stalwart workout partners with hugs, petting, or repeat viewings of Turner & Hooch.
To ensure that dogs play well with others, camp instructors arrange a meeting with person and pet one week prior to the first workout. They evaluate the dog’s temperament and provide one hour of basic obedience training so hounds can readily adapt to commands during class time. See the schedule for available classes.

About Thank Dog! Bootcamp
Friends and dog trainers Jill and Jamie were enjoying lunch together, recounting the events of the boot-camp class they had recently attended. Through the classes, they'd both found greater fitness and happiness, but lamented that their dogs couldn’t work out with them. Their discussion, paired with the knowledge that lack of exercise was a primary cause of canine behavioral problems, planted the seed that would later become Thank Dog! Bootcamp. Joined by personal trainer Noelle Blessey, they combined their areas of expertise to create a program to hone human bodies while providing exercise and obedience training for dogs.
Each class offers a combination of cardiovascular and weight training, often blending sprints, pushups, and lifts into a seamless series of exercises in which dogs participate. Typically, personal trainers call out commands to students, who in turn call out commands to their pets. The dog trainers then remain on hand to ensure that dogs behave well, obey commands, and receive obedience rewards.
