What You'll Get

Drinking at home is like the elephant in the room: it's only fun until you run out of peanuts. Stay stocked with today's Groupon: for $10, you get $25 worth of pub fare and drinks at The 5 Point Cafe.

The 5 Point slings drinks and hearty eats to legions of loyal Seattleites. Strong-arm a frill-free menu of hearty fare, served 24 hours a day. Emboldened appetites can opt for the 11-ounce chicken-fried steak, purported to be Seattle's most mammoth meat serving, and sidekicked with country gravy and mashed potatoes ($11). Other 5 Point specialties include the Blue Plate meat loaf, mingling with mashed potatoes and gravy ($9), and the hot turkey sandwich, served with cranberry sauce on egg bread ($10). The menu also offers some lighter side surprises, such as the "No Huevos" Rancheros, made with tofu, black beans, corn, and guacamole ($8).

The 5 Point exhibits a number of notable attractions, such as a neon sign that brazenly brags about The 5 Point's propensity to "cheat tourists and drunks." A singular atmosphere and stiff drinks lure all-night carousers, early-morning revelers, and midafternoon marauders to bask in the dive vibe of a Seattle staple.

The Belltown Messenger and the Seattle Times have both featured The 5 Point. Citysearchers and more than 295 Yelpers give it an average of four stars.

  • Breakfast is served all day. The chili in the huevos rancheros is homemade. So are the chips. (So is almost everything.) Burgers are hand-formed and served with homemade fries. Sandwiches, hot and cold, are piled high with home-roasted turkey or homemade meatloaf. – Kathryn Robinson, Seattle Times

  • The biscuts and gravy are awesome. So are the fried macaroni and cheese triangles.  – Ananda W., Yelp, 2/10/11

About The 5 Point Café

A review in the Stranger called The 5 Point Café “inarguably one of Seattle’s—indeed, the world’s—best dive bars.” The Seattle Times aptly described the eatery as “a rare blend of homespun and depraved,” a reputation it's honed since 1929. Founder C. Preston Smith cashed in at the end of Prohibition, but it was his son Dick who cemented 5 Point’s notoriety with various stunts. He installed a periscope in the men’s room that still stands today, looking out at the Space Needle, and he had bikini-clad waitresses on roller skates plug expired meters around the neighborhood, leaving friendly notes behind.

The 24-hour eatery serves breakfast all day and night to pair with stiff drinks and frothy beers poured along the bar. Hearty plates arrive loaded with eggs benedict, huevos rancheros, and housemade spicy black beans or 1/3-pound burgers made from natural Oregon ground beef. Deep-fried jalapeno mac 'n' cheese balls lead off meals of open-faced turkey sandwiches or tofu scrambles that feature housemade curry.
