What You'll Get
The cozy Alden Theatre in McLean revives silent film classic Sparrows, complete with live accompanying music. Produced by and starring Mary Pickford -- co-founder of the United Artists film studio and one of Hollywood's original A-listers -- this mature 1926 film has been described as "Dickensian" and "equal parts Gothic thriller and sentimental melodrama." Watch as Pickford (in her penultimate silent film role) plays savior to a group of starving children held captive in a bayou "baby farm." Their harrowing rescue includes an exciting escape scene through an alligator-infested swamp and it's all set to an amazing, totally improvised score.
