What You'll Get
Though they're all about dodging social obligations of any kind, two wily young bachelors each attempt to come across as very earnest -- while masquerading as guys named Ernest -- as they set out to win the heart of two very well-dowried ladies. Of course, their misguided plan goes hilariously awry and their exploits are discovered, leaving them with some s'plaining to do. Oscar Wilde's enduring 1895 satire is a comically sly romp through Victorian society, filled with one-liners and double entendres that still pack a mighty punch today. American Shakespeare Center on Tour presents the show in true period fashion, with the lights on. Audience members are encouraged to sit on stage and, at time, even interact with the actors. And get there early, because the actors will be singing and playing music beforehand, just as they would've in Shakespeare's time-- only you'll be hearing covers of tunes by the likes of Weezer and James Brown. Join the fast-paced fun at The Alden.
