During each 30-minute tour, passengers climb aboard handmade boats that glide along the San Marcos River. Tours run daily from 10 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.; kids aged 3 and younger ride free.

The Meadows Center

Run by Texas State University, The Meadows Center (formerly Aquarena) introduces visitors to the lush diversity of the San Marcos Springs and intricate system of waterways. Glass-bottomed boats set out for guided tours of Spring Lake, gazing at the aquatic life and University midterm papers below. Above the springs that bubble up from the bottom, soft shell turtles and bluegill sunfish swim in the clear waters and songbirds survey the sky. Eight endangered species populate the springs, including beetles and two species of salamander. On land, visitors can explore gardens of native Texan plants or a hall of nature exhibit.

Our family of 11, ranging in ages from 5 to 69, really enjoyed our visit. Our guide on the boat was very knowledgeable and interesting. The aquarium and exhibits were great. I recommend this as a great way to spend time with family.

I loved the Meadows Center. It was a fun experience for my girls. Though the recent floods had damaged some of the exhibit, it was still a great time riding the glass bottom boat. They even have a very small aquarium, but it's free. Neat experience. Staff was all super friendly too.
