The Back Room
With a legacy that extends back to 1968, The Back Room continues to lure crowds with the promise of live jazz, Motown, funk, R&B, and Chicago blues performances seven nights a week. Every visit begins with a speakeasy-worthy stroll down a long brick alley, where a host greets guests and escorts them into the lavishly decorated lounge area. Cinched red drapes nest against the glittering columns that fill the intimately lit space, which features banquette seating along the edges of the room surrounding a smattering of club-style tables. The walls pay homage to the musicians with various pieces of art, ranging from expansive murals of jazz ensembles to one sunburst-like fixture made from brass horns. When groups take the stage, patrons occasionally feel compelled to rise up and dance, much like a sleep-walking ballerina. In between waltzes, The Back Room helps visitors recharge with a selection of potent cocktails as well as a tapas-style food menu that includes refined finger foods, such as hush puppies with giardiniere aioli.
Those looking to unwind with a leisurely drink before a show may drop by The Drawing Room, which connects to The Back Room via a single hallway. Here guests may cocktail and commiserate in a quieter setting–all without moving their car or putting on their coat.
