Paula Warford and Rachel Warford-Tessalone discovered barre fitness and immediately fell in love with it while living in New York. They liked the ballet aspects of the regimen, but particularly enjoyed the lean muscles they earned through isolations and intense stretching. When a desire to live near family drew Paula back to Wayzata in 2010, she hoped to find a studio in the nearby Twin Cities to continue her barre workouts. She came up empty. Paula's disappointment wound up inspiring her and Rachel to take the first step in their fitness careers. They decided to get certified as teachers, and opened their own barre fitness studio, appropriately called The Barre.
Today, they teach in a sunlight-drenched urban studio adjacent to a hip shopping center and numerous restaurants. Amid accents of exposed brick and scarlet red, they use ballet barres to lift, stretch, and isolate leg and core muscles. They maintain a welcoming lobby with sofas and complementary tea to help warm the bones in winter or prove to summer that its heat cannot faze you. They even provide a supervised childcare area for kids to play while their parents work out or hang out in the studio.
