For $12, today's side deal gets you one ticket to The Life Inside, an innovative work of musical theatre performed at the Belfry Theatre. Seating is open, and buyers can choose between the December 7 and December 14 8 p.m. performances. Based on Maurice Maeterlinck's 1895 play, Intérieur, The Life Inside has been reworked by playwrights James Fagan Tait and Joelysa Pankanea to produce a stylized brand of theatre that blurs the lines between song and speech. Tait and Pankanea's previous production, Crime and Punishment, was hailed by the Vancouver Sun as "deserv[ing] an international spotlight." The plot of the current production concerns country peasants as they journey to deliver tragic news to the family of a young girl. Bittersweet in its tone and subtle with its wisdom, the work reflects the ambiguities upon which its arc and characterizations rest. The Life Inside was written specifically for the Belfry and is the largest production in the theatre's 34-year history.
