Until public-transit officials make our dream of commuting to work by rollycoaster a reality, we'll have to settle for the adrenaline rush of traditional pick-me-ups. Percolate perkiness with today's Groupon: for $10, you get $20 worth of café fare, coffee, microbrews, and more at The Brownstone in Orillia.
The Brownstone Café lubricates guests' conversational gears with a steady stream of micro-roast coffee and espresso, microbrew beers, wines, and cocktails, served alongside light café fare. The drink menu spans caffeinated and fermented beverages, starting with coffee ($1.25+) and espresso drinks such as lattes ($2.35+), made with beans harvested under the glow of Jupiter's moons and micro roasted at local Muskoka Roastery Coffee Co.. Adult libations include The Brownstone's take on Spanish coffee ($6.15) and microbrews such as the Steam Whistle pilsner ($5.65/pint). A monthly rotating selection of wines encourages palates to date around before committing to one varietal too early ($6/glass). In between bouts of intense conversation, patrons munch on paninis ($8), french-onion soup ($6), and desserts, including tarts ($2) and slices of cheesecake ($4.90).
Dark colours, black-and-white tile floors, wood tabletops, and exposed-brick columns wrap patrons in a warm hug and whisper conversation starters. The Brownstone also regularly features live music, as well as special events such as Martini Mondays, during which sippers enjoy $2 off their martinis (regularly $7.95).
