Each instructor of the Aerial Arts workshop imparts acrobatic acumen to classes of up to 20 high-flying participants inside the Youngstown Cultural Arts Center. Students begin with guided warm-ups before learning to wrap, suspend, and spiral their bodies in midair with aerial silks and swing on the trapeze as the instructor and teaching assistants keep a close watch for safety. Students develop strength and flexibility while practicing their elevated contortions, and should bring water and a light snack to reenergize and wear close-fitting clothing that covers the back of the knees and contains no zippers, buttons, or other metal.
Saturday workshops are available on August 17, September 7, October 5, November 9, and December 7.
The Cabiri Troupe
Whether swooping through the air atop the trapeze or wrapped in aerial silks, the performers at The Cabiri Troupe retell the myths of cultures that have passed into antiquity through high-flying performance as theatrical emissaries for the Anunnaki Project, a Seattle non-profit organization. The performers portray ancient myths through high-flying performance, dance classes, and written works. Primary instructors received aerial teacher training at the New England Center for Circus Arts and boast ten-plus years of performance experience. They share their multidisciplinary methodology with students through such classes as aerial arts, which sends participants aloft on aerial silks and hoops for spinning and swirling.
