In addition to the physical challenges facing children afflicted with illness and injury, long hospital stays and extensive medical treatment can disrupt the activities and interactions that are often an integral part of childhood, creating tremendous fear and stress for young patients. To mitigate this social and emotional damage, The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s Child Life, Education and Creative Arts Therapy programs help children adapt to and cope with hospitalization by augmenting the hospital’s medical care with normal day-to-day activities such as play, music, and art.
The hospital’s Art from the Heart program allows children to create their own works of art in a series of workshops encouraging creativity and healthy development. Through the construction of quarterly art projects, the program helps children to cope with the temporary loss of home and family life, manage stress, and grow cognitively and creatively. The hospital hopes to offer Art from the Heart on a monthly basis, but to fuel the art projects, the program needs basic art supplies such as crayons, markers, paint, and paper, as well as funding to bring in community arts groups to lead workshops.
Join G-Team and donate $10 to help The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia improve the healthcare experience for children afflicted with injury or illness. If G-Team members raise $500, The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia can fund one month’s Art from the Heart project. Each additional $500 raised will fund another month’s project.
