If the success of restaurants or impromptu dance-offs has proven anything, it’s that people relish in the opportunity to get served. Dance a gustatory jig with today’s Groupon: for $10, you get $20 worth of American dinner cuisine at Chocolate Maven Café in Santa Fe. The café serves dinner from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday–Thursday, and from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Ensconced inside the cozy warmth of a full-service bakery, the award-winning Chocolate Maven Café quiets ornery appetites with fresh and local ingredients. Drown hunger’s worst pangs in a bowl of roasted-butternut-squash soup ($8), or scupper them with a pair of blue crab cakes served with mango chutney and curried aioli ($10). More inventive than a think tank staffed by Thomas Edison clones, Maven’s menu dazzles diners with culinary creations, such as the grilled lamb sirloin stuffed with feta cheese, rosemary-cranberry sauce, and veggies ($24); cranberry-pecan-squash risotto ($17); and a bounty of meal-size salads and artisan pizzas.
Though not included in today's Groupon, Maven’s bakery alchemizes gourmet cakes, cookies, scones, tarts, pies, and more from a mysterious substance known only as “scratch.”
The Chocolate Maven Bakery & Café
Throughout the day, The Chocolate Maven Bakery & Café buzzes with visitors who dine on kitchen specialties while savoring aromas of fresh pastries from the onsite bakery. With a commitment to locally sourced ingredients and a flavor for international fare, the kitchen crafts dishes such as crispy Mediterranean pizzas with sun-dried tomatoes or empanada pastries with butternut squash. They regularly turn out decorative cakes, bread, and sweet treats as well. True to the eatery's name, the bakery offers vegan sweets and a selection of chocolate goods praised by the Santa Fe Reporter for being "utterly decadent."
