The Classic Theatre is a not-for-profit theatre company dedicated to promoting the staged arts to all members of the community. The 2010–11 season, which starts in August and runs until May, features a diverse mix of modern and classic plays:
Much Ado About Nothing, the only Shakespearian comedy based on an episode of Seinfeld, is scheduled to run August 12–29. The Classic Theatre will keep the guffaws rolling from October 14–31 with its production of Blithe Spirit, a 1940s comedy about socialites and séances. The Lion in Winter, first produced on Broadway in 1966, will come in like a grassland feline and leave like a wooly ungulate from March 10–27, captivating audiences with tales of political intrigue in the 10th century English court. Theatre and lawn hockey season will end on a tragic note with a production of Hedda Gabler, running from May 12–29, featuring a particularly enthralling female heroine.
All productions in this season of The Classic Theatre are guaranteed to produce record numbers of emotional rollycoasters and surprisingly low levels of concession-stand Tilt-A-Whirls. During each show's run, performances will be from Thursday–Saturday at 8 p.m. and on Sunday at 3 p.m. Call ahead to reserve your seat at least a week in advance.
