Contrary to popular belief, the art of personal decoration can encompass more than drawing on oneself with magic marker or standing next to a cardboard cutout of Tom Selleck. Improve individual expression with today's Groupon: for $20, you get two jewelry-making classes at The Creative Fringe in downtown Grand Haven (up to a $70 value).
The Creative Fringe instructs jewelry makers both grizzled and green on the arts of beading, metalworking, and enameling to encourage the construction of creative body ornaments. Classes run the gamut, from Beginning Wire Wrap ($20) to Silver Clay Basics ($30) to Glass Beadmaking 101 ($35), a prerequisite for Glass Beadmaking 201 and Anthropology of Baubles. Classes are kept small for maximum student-teacher interaction, with many capped at eight, ensuring that instructors are familiar with each of their pupils. Because some courses involve advanced techniques and—like running for chess-club president—require previous experience to begin, students should consult the schedule for any necessary skills. Sessions last between two and three hours and fill on a first come, first served basis, so it is recommended that would-be glass-blowers and bead-benders call a week in advance to reserve a spot.
Please note that although tools are provided, the Groupon does not cover materials and supplies.
