The Currywurst Company
Approximately 800 million servings of currywurst are eaten in Germany each year. But when Stuttgart-native Lothar Miller moved to New York in 2002, he couldn't find it anywhere on Long Island. Instead of trying to dig a hole back to Europe, he opened his own restaurant: The Currywurst Company, where he uses his family's recipes and the sausages he co-created with the CEO of Germany's Schridde Spices. The menu of gourmet meats boasts currywurst in exotic forms such as veal, kobe beef, and Spain's iberico pork, in addition to a wild-boar bratwurst flavored with cranberry and orange and a snappy alligator andouille brat. Guests can wash them down with recommended beer pairings, most of which are German imports that fit right in with the contemporary beer-garden digs.
