Gratify gastronome and gumshoe desires with today’s Groupon. For $39, you’ll get sips, savories, and sleuthing at The Dinner Detective Murder Mystery Dinner Show, a whodunit dinner party (normally a $70 value, or a $58 promotional value for the Valentine's Day show).
Put your detective skills and Jessica Fletcher tendencies to good use as the show unfolds amid four courses at the Embassy Suites hotel in San Diego Bay. A troupe of actors pose as average patrons in the audience, so even the most instinctually astute will be left throwing around false accusations and making citizen arrests.
Slyly scope out the scene while amusing your bouche with teriyaki beef kabobs, bruschetta, or other appetizers upon arrival. Guests will enjoy a mixed green salad before selecting from the entree menu, which includes chicken, fish, and vegetarian options. Your choices may include grilled New York strip steak, chicken florentine, Greek halibut, or garden pasta (vegetarian, but can be made vegan). Strategize potential suspects between forkfuls of dessert or sips of complimentary coffee. Other beverages and libations are available for a nominal fee.
Shows take place almost every Saturday. Doors open at 6:15 p.m., and the show will start promptly at 6:30 p.m. Reservations are based on availability; call the box office to confirm seating. Your Groupon includes tax and server gratuity, but gratuity is not included for the show's actors. Valet parking is available in front of the hotel.
- Did I do it? Did I have means, motive and opportunity? Well I can't tell you that, now can I? But I did have a darn good time! – Kayte Deioma
Citysearchers give the LA location 4.5 stars:
- We enjoyed top notch entertainment! I highly recommend a Dinner Detective evening over any overpriced musical theater ticket! Plus the food was fantastic! I was thrilled with the grilled salmon (and I know my salmon) and my husband wouldn't stop raving about the chocolate mousse dessert. We can't wait to go back and this time we're bringing another couple with us! They don't know what they're in for! Really a fabulous, fun, romantic evening with an affordable price tag! – GabiJane
- My husband and I have been to alot of these and this one is by far the most fun. I went to a few in Los Angeles and in Orange County a few years ago and they weren't anything like this. Really funny and talented actors. Food was pretty good, but then again I did not expect gourmet. – alicegunthry
The Dinner Detective San Diego
Eschewing the over-the-top costumes and writing that typify many other murder-mystery dinners, The Dinner Detective San Diego’s cast of improvisational actors blends in with audiences, holding secrets tight to their chests while steering each night’s tension-filled storyline. After a diner is found murdered, a resident detective helps lead the investigation, allowing guests to interrogate one another with Tickle Monster tactics to distinguish the culprit among the crowd of fellow diners and dissembling thespians. Multicourse meals keep bodies well fueled during spurts of crime-solving intuition, and a prize basket awaits the gumshoe who comes closest to solving the case.
