Running was popular in Europe long before it caught on in America, which is why most races are measured in kilometers instead of miles and why most of the Pilgrims were eaten by bears. Race to the top of the food chain with this Groupon.
$20 for The Dirty Dash 5K Registration for One ($40 Value)
Runners launch in waves starting at 9 a.m. from Pikes Peak International Raceway in Fountain on Saturday, August 24, careening through The Dirty Dash's mud-drenched pipes and pits. Racers aged 14 and older can join in the splashing and slipping, and runners younger than 14 may participate with an adult's supervision and signed waiver. At 2 p.m., 80 minutes after the final adult wave, guardians can pay $20 for kids aged 2–12 to take on the mud-spattered, 1-mile Piglet Plunge. Friends and family members can spectate for free and purchase water balloons for some cleansing lobs midrace. Participants can pick up their race packets from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on August 22 or 23.
The Dirty Dash
Eschewing traditional race rules and methods, Dirty Dashers must overcome a slew of mud-slicked obstacles, including mucky climbing hills, crawling pipes, slip 'n slides, and bear hugs from Pigpen. Organizers encourage runners to sign up with friends to foster a fun-loving environment, and along the way, racers fuel up at optional beer- or root-beer-chugging stations. Further demonstrating its commitment to outdoor high jinks, each event's registration fees, donations, water-balloon sales, and shoe donations benefit local charities.
