The PADI-certified mentors at The Dive Station, a professional-diver and instructor-training facility, coach aspiring amphibians on basic subaquatic skills during two-hour Discover Scuba Diving classes. Teachers outline the principles of taking preliminary plunges before suiting up schools of up to 8 students with all the necessary gear. Pupils then flipper through the heated depths of an indoor pool to hone their form and underwater etiquette, most of which consists of finagling moray eels into flawless bowties. No swimming experience is needed to take this course, though The Dive Station requests that guests arrive 15 minutes early to their two-hour session.
Upon completion of their introductory class, seafaring apprentices will also receive $30 off a follow-up Open Water Diver certification course. These lessons progress amateur divers through academic training and further confined-water training, then plunk them into the true-blue beyond for four open-water sessions and a cuttlefish-herding exam.
